You learn that E. D. Conway is originally from out west, but currently lives on the edge of Appalachia (the “App-uh-LATCH-uh” part) where they’ve found a home in a fourth-rate American city in the mountains with their wife, two cats, one rabbit, and some carnivorous plants.

This website is a place to showcase, synthesize, and monologue about all the things that give excitement to their life, including music, crafts, books, and language — all while learning to code, just as an added bonus. Why a whole website?

1. They’ve been kind of fascinated by the indie web movement as of late, mostly as a mode of creative personal expression; but all-in-one platforms like Wordpress are so frustratingly restrictive with their designs. And they hate subscriptions.
2. None of their closest friends use social media/the same platforms (”Probably for the best,” you think), so this is a way to learn about her latest obsessions. Major social media platforms are also hopelessly broken in terms of actually seeing chronological updates from your friends. This is one further way they can keep tabs on my life and projects.

You’ve already picked up that E. D. C. enjoys playing communal/group music (violin/fiddle, viola, mountain dulcimer, a bit of mandolin) in different music genres (classical, old-time, Irish trad, Finnish/Swedish folk).

You also realize that you possibly have heard them from the alto section at a shape note singing, where their belting volume once caused someone to move seats due to ear pain (true story, unfortunately).

They enjoy making things from scratch, badly, if necessary: creation as a part of their love for an art or medium, and as a lifegiving mode of creative expression.

They also enjoy collecting old and unusual books.
